I don't really understand what you want to do? You want to hide the root directory even though the public timeline should be visible to anyone? Since they're the same directory, that seems impossible.

Have you tried http://mustard.macno.org? I don't have a direct link to the android version (I'm an iPhone user), but as far as I know, the official StatusNet App unfortunately doesn't work with the newest version of StatusNet installed at identi.ca

From my limited knowledge it's probably best if you take a look at either https://www.google.com/webfonts or the code of StatusNet to change it to another font.
