Hi there,
I want to setup a twitter proxy based on statusnet on my server. First, I tried the latest stable version from the status.net website, but the twitter bridge didn't work at all. Then I tried the latest stream from gitorius, the bridge connected correctly and I could send twits trough statusnet I installed, but it couldn't fetch the timeline.
I wanted to ask which is the best version of statusnet to set up my personal twitter proxy and access to it via statusnet supporting clients, since I remember I setup one years ago without problem?

Can't subscribe to remote groups

I can subscribe to remote users, but not remote groups. There are a few other threads like this (forum.status.net/discussion/999/can-not-join-remote-group, forum.status.net/discussion/722/cannot-join-remote-group) but they don't provide the answer.

Tips on SMTP email

Info for sending e-mail via SMTP is a bit sparse so I thought I'd post a tip here in case anyone else wants to do this. My email server is accessible via authenticated user, and it's not on the localhost of the web server. I host HTTP with DreamHost but I do not use their email server. The problem I was trying to solve was that emails generated with sendmail, or from unauthenticated users, would be delivered with the From like "myunixuser@myservername.dreamhost.com on behalf of MySiteName [noreply@domain.tld]". That's completely unacceptable. So here is how I changed that in config.php:

Now emails look very professional, not spammy or system-generated.

I was also pleased to find that emails from the site have unique headers:

X-StatusNet-TargetUser: myname
X-StatusNet-SourceUser: originatorname
X-StatusNet-Domain: status.mydomain.com

There is also a MessageType "subscribe".

401 error from superfeedr

Although I already have a thread about SubMirror, I'm starting a new thread because the problem is different this time. I am trying to add mirroring of a Wordpress RSS feed and I have a fallback hub specified in my config.php like this:

Class 'Ostatus_profile' not found when using SubMirror plugin

I'm trying to import some RSS feeds using the SubMirror plugin. Most problems that people have with this, based on previous threads, are because the feeds are not PubSubHubbub enabled. But I think that mine are: I have a Wordpress blog at http://dominica.malcolm.id.au and two Blosxom blogs at http://doyle.malcolm.id.au and http://leo.malcolm.id.au, both of which using a PuSH plugin. But when adding them, I don't get even get as far as most people. I get a white screen, and this in the webserver log:

PHP Fatal error: Class 'Ostatus_profile' not found in /usr/share/statusnet/plugins/SubMirror/actions/basemirror.php on line 98, referer: http://www.malcolm.id.au/settings/mirror

Ostatus_profile.php does exist in /usr/share/statusnet/plugins/OStatus/classes/, should it also be somewhere else? I'm using StatusNet 1.0.1.

Hi guys,

I found the source of the error.

TO THE DEVELOPERS:
I guess you never heard of unit tests, or "good database abstraction layer". The error message "unknown error" *is not true*, because the error IS known by the system!

First, change this in Classes / User_im_prefs.php:

'primary key' => array('user_id', 'transport(100)'),
'unique keys' => array(
'transport_screenname_key' => array('transport(100)', 'screenname(100)'),
),

The error message on some systems (like mine) is (or "would be", if the error would be correct displayed):
MySQL Error: 1071, Specified key was too long; max key length is 1000 bytes

That's why you have to shorten the index keys, otherwise on some systems it won't work.

Second:
Change line 589 in plugins / OpenID / OpenIDPlugin.php to:

FROM

TO
'primary key' => array(array('server_url', 100), 'handle(100)'),

After that, the installation should complete!

Anyway: Why the devs did NOT find the error themselves....?

API login not working in Webfaction

I installed statusnet version 1.1.0 in my Webfaction server (http://microblog.filipesaraiva.info/), where php is configured on CGI. The API login is not working.

I tried this solution http://forum.status.net/discussion/comment/2156/#Comment_2156, but it don't work for me.

I just opened a new account and for some reason keep getting the message "Not allowed to log in." I have not even made one post yet and have attempted to change the password multiple times but the same message keeps appearing. Have sent a help message 3 days ago but have not received any response. Here is the site, which is still active:

I just installed a new SN at status.farcebork.com
Everything seems to be working nicely except twitter fetching and importing (xposting to twitter works fine).
I noted that when I did stopdaemons.sh it told me that the two twitter related daemons where "not found".
I check the log and find the following:

I do not understand what this is telling me...I know there is a database. There IS a table, "foreign_link".

I have installed statusnet in public mode. I am getting the following error while attaching an image or anything with the status. Any suggestion to how to solve the problem will be appreciated.

"System_Command Error: non-zero exit value from command" is not a supported file type on this server. Try using another system_command error: non-zero exit value from command format.

Hi, I'm trying to convert my blog into status.net, but I can't find how to do this, if possible:

I'll need line-breaks, but as far I can tell, they're saved on notices table, and never rendered as such. Editing notices.rendered to have
's did the trick, but how can I do this automatically? Is there an option, a plugin?

If not, I guess I can make one... But would it have trouble being rendered in federated sites?

In 2010/11 I installed v0.9.6. There were a number of issues with security, rampant bot registrations, and no feedback on the desktop app, which made me question the viability of the platform. So I never went production with my site. OK, give it some time... I just visited my subdomain to see it had been hacked recently and found a number of PHP errors. OK, maybe it's time to upgrade and take another look at v1.x.

So general questions:
1) Do people here feel this software is being maintained well enough to put into production? I know it's FOSS and we all need to do our part but without some existing critical mass it's tough to drink the kool-aid.
2) The bot registrations forced me to close my alpha site down for invite-only membership. It was seriously brutally abused - and I hadn't even published the URL yet! Is this still a chronic problem?
3) Any movement on the desktop app? What's up with that anyway? It wasn't working, no one was making changes, and no one was offering source either. I'd be happy to write my own if I understood the API - like Twitter's.

Aside from that, I'm hoping for an experience similar to any other FOSS - we install, ask questions, report bugs, offer some code or docs or assistance of our own, get periodic updates, repeat as required - until world peace and immortality for all is attained. But seeing as this has just gone from 0.9.6 to 1.1 in 2 years, I'm sort of concerned about where's been and where it's (not?) going.

Problem in configuring API

I have installed status.net on mac machine. The web app is working fine and I have enabled fancy URL. The problem is that I am getting "HTTP Error 500" when I try to hit API url. here is example url:
http://localhost/doxting/api/statuses/public_timeline.json
Can anyone guide me what I am doing wrong? I have very limited knowledge of php. I need it for iOS app. Thanks.

Would my status.net server work in a totally offline environment? I was hoping to build a server, hook a wireless access point to it, and have a mini twitter service while on a cruise ship. There would be zero internet access.

XMPP broke on upgrade from 0.9 to 1.0.1

I upgraded recently and XMPP broke. I can still start the IM daemon and it still logs into my Jabber server, with the status message "Send me a message to post a notice". But when I do, it ignores that message. Here is a debug log:
