no updates incoming from identi.ca to personal SN installation

I have status.net running at tonybaldwin.me/status
I follow a LOT of people on identi.ca (about 70% of the people I follow on status.net, outside of twitter contacts).
I get no updates from my identi.ca contacts.
I mirror my own feed to identi.ca/tonymoved (formerly identi.ca/tonybaldwin), and that works fine, so I can communicate in one direction with identi.ca, but not the other.
I've noted that I can follow identi.ca folks on friendica fine, no problem.
Why can I not follow them and get their updates on status.net?
My installation is on debian squeeze on linode.
I installed the latest version in January.

I have another installation at free-haven.org/status/ and that one gets identi.ca updates fine. That one is on CentOS on godaddy, and will be dismantled soon (I will be moving the domain to my linode, and probably installing friendica under that domain).

I don't know how to trouble shoot this.
I get updates from contacts with their own status.net installations fine, twitter contacts, friendica contacts, and many rss feeds, all fine (although SN seems very picky about rss feeds, and won't mirror many, the ones it will mirror work great).
It is only identi.ca from which I am not receiving.

  • Tony, are you still having trouble? There have been a few problematic days, but my instance has received updates from identi.ca when the site is up.
  • I haven't received a single update from identi.ca contacts since January.

Now, I had a similar problem on my friendica instance, until I installed an "officially signed" SSL certificate, just today.

Do I need one for my status.net, too?
  • I'm not using SSL on my statusnet, in truth. Maybe I need to?
  • You shouldn't need one for federation purposes. Perhaps someone silenced your remote profile on identica. I don't know how to find it, or I'd check.
  • Oddly, I can mirror from my SN to my identi.ca account just fine, and I DO see some stuff from identi.ca, but only when one of my other contacts replies, redents, or likes it.
  • Were you able to resolve your problems?

    // Paul
  • Nope. I still receive no updates from identi.ca (unless non-identica, federated SN contacts reply or repost).
I'm also running code from gitorious, now, but I haven't pulled in a few days (seems @evan has made 100s of commits in the past 48 hours which I have not pulled).
  • Still not receiving from identi.ca...4 months now...
  • Make sure you're logging, then look through the log to find what the error message is.

    cat /path/to/snlog | grep ERR | tail -n 50 | less
  • Darn it. I JUST deleted the log and turned logging off last night. I was having issues with my hdd being full on the server due to mass build up of logs (not just SN logs, but also apache, friendica, and others).
  • I just turned it back on in config.php, so I'll report back, maybe in 24 hours, and see what I can find in there.
  • Just after having it back on for a while, I see no errors relevant to identi.ca. Pretty well all the errors are stuff like

    2012-04-29 17:10:35 LOG_ERR: [tonybaldwin.me:11290.9d2b365c GET /status/avatar/Twitter_279390084_258844_104131489680984_104118713015595_32268_721285_o__1___normal.jpeg] Problem getting route for avatar/Twitter_279390084_258844_104131489680984_104118713015595_32268_721285_o__1___normal.jpeg - No match for path "avatar/Twitter_279390084_258844_104131489680984_104118713015595_32268_721285_o__1___normal.jpeg"
  • All twitter avatar problems.
  • Some time later, now, the only stuff I find in the statusnet.log that mentions identi.ca at all is when it logs a search query:

    2012-04-29 17:04:38 LOG_DEBUG: [tonybaldwin.me:11024.3b628795 GET /status/search/notice?q=identi.ca] Session: Successfully updated '6conoo34qd5jond20s9okg67q5' (result = 1).

When I grep ERR | grep identi.ca, I do not see anything.
  • Tony, the only thing I can think of is SSL. If you change from one setting to another, some instances may not be able to communicate with yours any longer.

Otherwise, it could also be that your federated account got tripped up in the spamtrap. A mod-helper would have to find your Identica profile page and unsilence it.
  • I don't think I could be spam-trapped, since identi.ca folks can follow me without issue, and I mirror my own sn to tonybaldwin@identi.ca
    My stuff shows up there.
It's just getting identi.ca stuff to show up on my instance that's the problem.
