Importing RSS Feeds

edited September 2010 in Plugins
Is there a way to import RSS feeds into the status.net platform?
I see that twitterfeed can post to identi.ca, but is there a way the users can enter their rss feeds from their profile and post the updates to the public timeline on my status.net website, as their rss feeds are updated?
Or is there another 'twitterfeed' type service that can post to the websites using the status.net platform?
Basically, I would like my users to be able to autopost to their profile as their rss feeds update. Much like twitterfeed does for twitter and facebook and identi.ca, but to my status.net website.
I'm kinda new at this whole script stuff and don't understand much of the complicated lingo, so please be gentle :)
I look forward to your response, and thank you in advance.

  • @frankjortiz I just want to clarify; is this a status.net hosted cloud site you are talking about or your own StatusNet install?
  • I used Twitterfeed for years but I just switched to Dlvr.it. They support more features than Twitterfeed and it can post to Status.net instances.
  • jordanc - It's a statusnet running on my hosting (godaddy).
Right now I am using twitterfeed, but would like to see if there is a way to kmport direct.
  • @frankjortiz take a look at the SubMirror plugin, it will essentially mirror an RSS feed to a StatusNet Account.
  • @jordanc Thanks, I changed the config file and added addPlugin('SubMirror');
The Mirro tab showed up on the Account section. I entered a Feed Rss and got this "FeedSubNoHubException". I am missing anything?
  • @frankjoritz Sorry, it only works with PuSH (PubSubHubub http://code.google.com/p/pubsubhubbub/ ) enabled feeds, unless you setup a fallback hub and a superfeedr subscription http://superfeedr.com/ or something like that.
  • @jordanc That got a little complicated! So I think I will leave the pubhub thing alone for a little while until I can figure it out.
I think I would have to change the rss on my site and do a little more work than I expected, so for now it's twitterfeed....
  • @frankjoritz alot of big networks like Wordpress and Gawker and all Status.net sites are already PuSH enabled but in cases where the feed is not you would need a PuSH hub.
  • @jordanc My feed is not PuSH hub. I will have to see what I can do to get it there. My main site. the one I am using the statusnet platform for is an articles marketing site and I have several thousand writers that post daily, so I need to get it up to date. I just had not even heard about this PuShHub thing until now. Thanks, you have been great help.
  • @jordanc I found that feedburner is apparently PuSH hub so I added my rss to there and then used the mirroring option on my statusnet site, and it apparently was successful. The problem is that it is not importing. Any suggestions? my site is twiticles.com in case you want to try it out, or take it for a spin. Thanks
  • How do you enable this mirror function on an installation? I see it on identi.ca, but I don't have it on the installation I put up this week at free-haven.org/status in settings. I can't find anything anywhere about how to enable this feature on my installation, either here or on the wiki. I know it should be in settings, between openid and url...I don't have it. I looked in all the admin interface, searched for something to add to config.php...I can't find anything.
