Can no longer subscribe to remote groups or reply to remote users

I'm afraid I'm missing the obvious here - but:
I created my cloud account in June 2010 (ossi1967.status.net). Worked like a charm. No complaints.

After a while, I realized I could no longer write to the !groups from identi.ca I had subscribed to. Then, I could no longer reply to dents from users (from identi.ca) I had subscribed to. (I don't get an error. My messages just never appear.)

Following a stroke of genius, I deleted all group-subscriptions. Trying to re-subscribe now results in the infamous error

> 500 Failed joining remote group.

I did search around here and found some related posts (incl. fixes), but they seem to be useful only for people who run their own instances of statusnet - not for the lazy like me who rely on the hosted service.

Not being able to communicate with other users/groups makes status.net a lonely experience. (I still recieve dents from the people I subscribed to, though.)

What is it I'm missing?

  • @ossi1967 There were some OStatus issues with 0.9.7 We're working on fixing everything - should be back to normal in a day or two.
  • jordanc, thx. i'll keep waiting... although i'm pretty certain it can't be 0.9.7 *only*. it started months ago, not sure which version it was, .5 or .6... anyway. i'll be happy when it's fixed.
  • Any update? I'm still not seeing any grouped tag posts in my timeline.
  • @encyclomundi testing it out with my custom domain. I thought the fixes we did for you yesterday would have gotten it =\
  • @encyclomundi I think we got it working now.
  • Nope. :)

    > Internal Server Error
    > Failed joining remote group.
  • @ossi1967 what group specifically? It's working for me on my status.net cloud site.
  • @jordanc: I tried (identi.ca/group/)n900, maemo and meego. it always fails when i'm prompted to confirm the subscription, the moment i press 'join' to confirm.
  • @ossi1967 Odd, I just managed to join the group... I'll delve into the logs and investigate further, but it looks like it should be working...
  • Any news? What I found out meanwhile is that my answers to your dents do show up at http://status.jordanconway.com/, while they still don't on identi.ca for any user I tried. I wonder if I could subsribe to a group that lives on your status.net installation. Maybe it's identi.ca that's rejecting me...
  • @ossi1967 I just tried some other things that may have fixed it up.
  • Still not for identi.ca :(

(The last time I can tell for sure somebody on identi.ca received my dent was on oct. 27th, 2010)

Is there any way to check what happens on the other side (=identi.ca) in these situations?
  • Getting even stranger. I subscribed to http://identi.ca/jordanc/ recently.
    Doesn't show up on http://identi.ca/jordanc/subscribers - while
    http://ossi1967.status.net/subscriptions proves I did.

It seems everything I do is simply invisible to identi.ca. I feel left out.
  • @ossi1967 Ok, I figured something else out, I had thought that your ostatus subscription had some how gotten corrupted or out of sync, it turns out that there is something in the identi.ca blacklist that is matching part of your name, I'm working on figuring it out, but it's not very obvious. I'm going to ask someone here better at in-brain regex matching than myself to take a look, but that should clear up all the trouble as soon as I figure out what the offending entry is.
    Sorry for the delays.
  • No problem... I'm only just evaluating status.net, not depending on it. :)
Besides, with things like this, I'm more interested in finding the cause of the problem than a quick solution or workaround.
  • any news on the blacklist issue?
  • Try again, I may have found it.
  • No, I'm afraid not. I still get the "internal server error" when I try to join a group at identi.ca - and 8ball@identi.ca still won't receive/answer my dents.
  • Wow... Got my first dent through to identi.ca today:

Also, I managed to subscribed to groups. I still get an error (or a blank page instead of that), but afterwards the group is there and I can follow it. Nice christmas surprise.
