  @weblivz The 1.0.x source on gitourious is what we're working on, it will become the public release, it's in heavy development right now. I don't think there is a public 1.0 roadmap, I think the plan is "shock and awe" hehe... You can try out the 1.0.x. code but it's not complete as to what it will be at launch time, and a lot of the neat stuff happens in plugins so some changes may not seem that apparent, what I'm getting at is don't judge on pre-alpha/alpha type software ;-)
  1.0.x is a fairly large departure from our previous offerings.

  Thanks @jordanc . I ask as I am looking to go live with a site and have done some custom work on the existing codebase (0.9.7). Not a huge amount but seeing how some things i want specific to my site could be done.
  
  Just not sure whether to continue to customize 0.9.7 and go live, or look at v1 and delay a release - just don't want to re-work everything and/or take the site offline.

  @weblivz We reccomend that all customization be done via plugins rather than to the core codebase, makes upgrades way smoother ;-)
  Take a look at http://status.net/wiki/HOWTO_Make_a_Plugin and see if you can migrate your cusomizations to a plugin.
  If it's a theme, 1.0.x is very different the 0.9.x
