Realtime update with Nginx HTTP_push module

Hello,
Reading Realtime page on status.net wiki about Nginx, you mention that it does not work with comment:
"Plugin for nginx to do long connections. Seems kinda cool, but also work-intensive on our side."

I'm trying to write the plugin/javascript, but I'm not PHP expert so won't be able to modify core code.

What does "work-intensive" mean ? Is it only a new Plugin + some javascript, or does it concern more status.net core modifications ?

    @jbfavre it meas it would be alot of php development work for us, we only officially support the apache2 web server, html5 will probably be the next direction we move fo realtime pushing.

    So I understand this would be a lot of change in status.net core part, no only a new Plugin ?
    Well, not sure I'll continue so.
