Private groups

I've installed StatusNET 1.1.0 in my LAN. According to http://status.net/features, I'd like to create private groups where users are invited by the group creator so they can collaborate privately. I can't find how to use this feature, is it available for the open source statusnet or only for the hosted version?.

When you go to create a group, you should see the option to make it private. I have not created a private group, so I do not know whether "private" means you have to invite people to join or non-members cannot see the content.
