canceled subscriber

I am installing statusnet on my shared hosting webspace ( status.francopetri.com, no shell access, just directadmin ).
I made a few installations, just to get a feel for it.
The first time I subscribed to identi.ca/evan (as a test). I then proceeded to cancel the statusnet folder and proceed with a new installation.

The thing is that now, the old (deleted) account is listed in evan's follower page ( https://identi.ca/evan/subscribers - look for a user named franco). I thought (and hoped) to see the subscription canceled.

Is that a "work as expected"?

I just wanted to warn people at identi.ca (I hope I haven't messed things up).
I was going to "play" with statusnet a bit more before the final installation, but I will stop for now until I learn a safer way of doing it (remove the users first and then reinstall?)

On a slightly related note, now I can subscribe to identi.ca's users, even though:

- when I click "confirm" (after the follow request) I get this error: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/xyzk/domains/francopetri.com/public_html/status/plugins/OStatus/extlib/Math/BigInteger.php on line 1594
- it seems I am not listed on their "followers page"

  • Regarding the '30 seconds exceeded' error, I solved it by putting a 'SetEnv PHP_INI_SCAN_DIR yourAddressHere' line in .htaccess .
Still, it doesn't seem I am in any follower page of people I am following.
Note that this problem (not being listed on the follower page) only happens on identi.ca! I tried subscribing to micro.jpope.org and there I am correctly listed!
  • @franco18 Is this happening with everyone on Identica, or only some users? I've noticed that subbing to some users takes an awfully long time. I do not know why.
  • I have made 8 subscriptions on identi.ca and all 8 fail to list me as their follower. When I subscribed to jpope I almost immediately got added.
I kind of fear that first, wrong, subscription messed the things up.
  • Aaaand it seems people from identi.ca can't subscribe to me, too (made a test account there).
  • @franco18, Is this new SN install at the exact same URL as the first one and any others? Are you using the same SSL setting consistently each time you install? (ON, OFF, or SOMETIMES)

Those two things seem to be major pain points for federation.
  • No, it is *not* the exact same url ( first it was a status.francopetri.com/franco now status.francopetri.com <-- the latter being a single user ).<br />And in the second install I have used 'fancy urls' too.
And alas, in the second install I put 'ssl' to 'sometimes'.

Additional note: mr Jeremy Pope just subscribed to me (little he knows I am a boring person!) and his face is now showing in my 'follower' section (so he could subscribe with no problem, a thing folks at identi.ca can't).

So it seems I messed up identi.ca with my actions. I wonder: does that warrant a bug report?
  • I think the URL and SSL change is the problem. I was able to subscribe just now, but that may have been because my (new) instance was never aware of your older instance. In my opinion, it is better to create a 'public' instance with SSL optional and turn it 'invite only' than to set it up as 'single-user'. That way, if you ever decide to install a weather bot, or allow your friends and relatives to have accounts, you don't break things.

support@status.net may be able to purge your old URL from the Identi.ca database. Before you contact to ask, finalize your URLs and your SSL setting.
  • @franco18 I think the problem might be fixed; let me know if things look right.
