change default geo location to 0

I've just installed statusnet-1.0.1 Thank you very much.
I'm running into all sorts of questions. First off, where is the config example? Perhaps that would contain answers to the doubts I have. Anyway, so not to bog down this post with multiple issues here goes just one..
In a user's settings->profile I see the option 'Share my current location when posting notices'
How do I change the default value?
I've tried changing
'share_location' => array('type' => 'int', 'size' => 'tiny', 'default' => 0, 'description' => 'Whether to share location data'),
in classes/User_location_prefs.php but that doesn't seem to work.
