Also, you should make sure that the user you're using for StatusNet has "ALL" privileges on the database. ("Grant ALL on yourdatabase.* to 'username'@'%' identified by 'password'").

Oh, one other thing: there's some more verbose output in syslog for DB errors. What does that show you?
