Extending the base theme

There site i am considering running with status.net would probably use an extra tab as the landing page rather than the public timeline as it is now - mainly because i want to have some (relatively) static content which will then drive people to the discussions. Has anyone customized StatusNet in this way?

    Ignore this - saw a great section on the wiki.

    Can't find a way to delete the messages which is odd.

    @weblivz you may also need to use a plugin in addition to a custom theme depending on what you're looking to do, for the most part changing things with plugins rather than hacking at the core php files is considered best practice, info on plugins is also on the wiki that you seem to be getting pretty familiar with ;-)
