Word count rather than character count?

I've been asked if we could limit status entries by words rather than characters. Any idea if this would be tough? Thanks.

Not sure how hard that would be but you can make the character limit anything you want (well the admin sets it for the user). I use 500 on mine for instance.

Unless someone makes another suggestion I'm going to look into creating a regex for this that works just like the character limit functionality.

The only problem with that is word count isn't a fixed field size. 500 characters is 500 characters. 500 words could be anything from a 1,000 characters to 9,000 characters. Obviously it can be done by changing the code.
