Amazon s3

Is anyone, or is it possible to serve files (pics), backgrounds and avatars to Amazon S3 buckets for better scaling?

Regards :-)

  • @purge You can serve static content from S3 but not things like avatars and uploads. We serve some custom themes and javascript from S3 on some StatusNet instances.
  • @jordanc am I right in thinking you can set the paths as sub domains? I notice that on identi.ca it runs things like http://file.status.net

Are the files/pics etc being loaded to a different server? or some other config??

  • @purge yep, using nfs shares mounted where the software expects to find the file and avatars.

Thanks for the reply, it is appreciated. I will take a look inside. I am currently uploading pics/files to amazon buckets using php so maybe it's possible to get it to work on the status script. Has to be worth a go! :-)
