We run a large (~500k daily uniques / 20m registered users) social network. We do not have a twitter-style system and we want to implement one. We thought it might be intelligent to not build it ourself and instead rely on status.net - However, we have a few questions..

1: How scalable is status.net? What is the process for scaling more? Is it as simple as adding more servers and editing a config? Does anyone have any benchmarks on how many active users a typical dedicated ( quadcore /12gbram ) can handle?

2: Will it be possible to modify status.net to instead of working on a friend/follow system, you instead automatically follow people within a location? (Imagine if your twitter feed was not of people you follow, but the updates of people in the same town/area as you - even though you did not 'follow' them)

I have been using identica some time ago and wanted to connect it with ping.fm to be able to publish my Posts easier.
As this wasnt possible i kind of forgot about my account for some time. I never published anything via ping.fm!
Yesterday i wanted to re-start using identi.ca and couldnt login.
In this forum i read about a ping.fm block due to spam issues of which I didnt know. Maybe this could be a reason for silencing me?

All of the below problems relate to status.net twiiter and identi.ca are working fine.

pidgin: won't enable status.net and pressing the re-enable button does nothing.
choqok: uses my statusus.net id and password to grab a group that I belong to in identica (not the same group in status.net that it should be getting).
gwibber: won't autorise status.net

Can you tell me why this is happening and how to fix it. Is there a way to do it through file entery?

Gwibber is working fine on my netbook running joicloud but, on my main computer running a fresh install of Ubuntu nada just problems with status.net.

Any help would be appreciated.
